Optical Scientist/Engineer
12 month contract
£5,500 p/month (inclusive)
Cambridge

Our client in Cambridge are seeking an exceptional experimental scientist or engineer to join their technical team developing advanced optical technologies for the cloud.

Skill-set

The successful candidate should have a PhD in optics, experimental physics, or degree plus equivalent professional experience. The successful candidate must be skilled and bring a strong background in several of the following areas (experimental):

  • Optical microscopy
  • Polarization Optics
  • Optical Design
  • Free Space Optics
  • Laser Optics
  • Optomechanical integration

In addition, the candidate must possess the following skills:

  • Understanding of specifications of optical components to able to lead procurement of lab components/equipment.
  • Building and testing free-space optical experimental setups, run experiments and logging/analysing results.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision towards defined task milestones within a team environment.
  • Good presentation and communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills, capable of managing multiple simultaneous tasks effectively.
  • Handling and basic use of electrical test equipment.
  • Besides their qualifications for experimental research, candidates should in general provide a high degree of motivation to perform work in a highly collaborative spirit.

 

Experience

The candidate must have 3-5 years’ experience working in an optical laboratory environment. Ideally, their research record should be demonstrated by strong publications in Journals and top conferences.

 

Typical Day in the Role

A typical day will involve the design, construction, modification or testing of free-space optical experiments.

 The successful candidate will join a world leading team of optical, electronic, mechanical and software engineers developing solutions to the most challenging and important technological problems.
