Lead Electrical Systems Engineer


Our prestigious client design, manufacture, and supply automotive driveline cooling, heating, and air conditioning products based in Birmingham. They are looking to engage a Lead Engineer for Electrical Systems, who will manage the Electrical and Electronics team in the design, development and production release of hardware and software to support the company’s product range of thermal management systems. They will verify and maintain system level electrical designs to meet and exceed customer expectation and business requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • To Lead team(s) of engineers and design partners on one or more projects.
  • Responsible for design requirements capture, planning and execution of DFMEAs and design reviews and any subsequent actions through to completion and engineering and supplier sign-off.
  • Record and manage engineering risks and mitigating actions.
  • Ensure common system designs, interfaces and principles are applied consistently across all systems, platforms and territories. Promote the reuse of parts and modular design philosophies.
  • Lead the upfront development and testing of new designs to identify and resolve issues and improvements prior to product introduction.
  • Lead the support of New Product Introduction
  • Comply with the Engineering Product Development process and produce and maintain the design records and documentation.
  • Comply with the Systems Engineering process and lead the innovative development, management and integration of systems across platforms and projects.
  • Interface directly with internal and external customers on technical issues and requirements. Ensuring high customer satisfaction through safe, reliable and fit for purpose designs.
  • Prepare and present technical documentation and papers for review and communication with key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for ensuring that design guides, certification requirements and product compliance are defined and fulfilled.
  • Co-ordinate activities with internal and external design partners or suppliers to achieve quality, cost and delivery targets.
  • Troubleshoot electrical / electronic problems either remotely or at client and implement resolutions for future production
  • Deliver robust design and validation programs
  • Implement design standards to drive quality and consistently
  • Review prototype / validation results and offer system improvements where required or identified.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • BEng in Electrical / Electronics Engineering to 2.1 level or above – evidence required
  • Previous management experience of an Electrical / Electronics team or department
  • Electrical experience at a vehicle and or vehicle system related organisations 
  • Ability to demonstrate strong CAN J1939 understanding
  • Good Electrical system design and integration experience


  • Experience of Prism/Composite frameworks
  • Experience of mobile development using Xamarin
  • Experience of web development using ASP.NET MVC
  • Experience of.Net Core, Azure Development and UML
  • Experience of automated software testing and of VSTS/DevOps for bug tracking
  • Experience of CAN, and relevant tools
  • Experience of the automotive/motorsport domain



  • £55,000 to £65,000 (negotiable dependent upon experience) plus benefits
